Tiny gold particles can help harness energy from the sun to break down pollution
DIG DEEPER at Norwegian SciTech News:
norwegianscitechnews.com/2023/06/tiny-gold-particles-can-help-harness-energy-from-the-sun-to-break-down-pollution/
Researchers at NTNU have found a way to make gold nanoparticles with a uniform size and shape, opening up the possibility of finding more effective photocatalysts.
When organic pollutants such as dyes, agricultural chemicals, and pharmaceuticals enter waterways all around the world, they can harm the environment and human health - and removing them can be incredibly difficult.
Photocatalysts - substances that absorb energy from light and use it to accelerate the rate of a chemical reaction - can decompose organic pollutants in a process called mineralization, converting them into water, carbon dioxide, and other harmless molecules. But there’s a catch: most photocatalysts require UV light to work, making them impractical and expensive to use at scale.
To solve that problem, researchers have their sights set on finding a photocatalyst that can harness much more of the solar spectrum. “If you can use solar light, it’s cheaper and much more available than UV light,” says Magnus Rønning, a professor in catalysis at the Department of Chemical Engineering, NTNU.
Nano-sized disks made of the mineral bismutite are a promising photocatalyst, and researchers have discovered that adding gold nanoparticles to their surface increases their sensitivity to the visible part of the solar spectrum. However, while there are several ways to deposit those gold nanoparticles on a surface, most methods give limited control over the size and shape of the particles you end up with.

Let me help you with translation. The artifact they found in the viking grave is a turtle shield brotch that women wore to held up their dresses. What is special with this brotch is that it was covered in embroiered fabric. That has never been found before. It is very unusual to find fabric from the viking ages. She also said that to provide a hole family with clothes for a year that took almost all of the womens time. Besides that she said that to make a sail for the viking ship you had to use wool from 2.000 shep.

This is simply wonderful. I have a great affection for this archaeological discovery because as an active participant in a medieval historical reenactment group called "Pendragón Grupo Medieval", this tomb has been incredibly helpful, especially with the textile aspect. I am a person who loves crafting, knitting, and embroidery, and the fact that something related and so carefully preserved has been found is incredible. It has made my reenactment work very special. I don't know how I could stay updated with what has been done over the years and what will undoubtedly continue to be done with the findings, but I would love to know if it was possible at some point to determine the colors of the fabrics or things like that. Many greetings from Colombia, and someday my reenactment won't be from so far away.

The problem with solar is that it will heat the area beneath them so algal blooms might occur because of rising local temperature. Although it would be an actual good experiment to make floating farms with actual crops and place the solar panels well above the crops at an angle (constantly moving) to produce some shade. Also, you could place light weight fans next to the crops to cool them off and those fans can either work with wind or solar from the panels. ALSO, the same kind of light weight fans can be attached underneath the island structure, as underwater propellers of sorts, to collect kinetic energy from the ocean's currents. That would be more effective.

It has been suggested that "chemtrails" are in fact solar geoengineering to protect us from radiation and excessive heat.

This sound like the typical Debbie downer debate we get ourselves into, whenever we find an alternative to something we have deemed also bad for the environment. We do need to improve and give bio plastic a try on the market. Because oceans are filling up with conventional plastic, and recycling and reusing aren’t alway feasible options ether. Similar views I have about electric cars. Yes they are still behind the curb, and even have their own set of environmental issues such as with the batteries. But I am not going to say they aren’t a thing of the future though. Since a lot of thing that are new, have bug that need to be worked out. Bio plastic has bugs that could be work out, but I am not going to say it won’t replace conventional plastic.
